Gran Turismo 5 – More Details Revealed

Sony’s E3 press conference is now almost 24 hours away and the community is still very much buzzing about the upcoming release of Gran Turismo 5 for the Playstation 3.

With the E3 still in full swing, more and more details on the upcoming title are revealed, providing us with a mix of good and bad news. Eurogamer has published a very interesting hands-on article that contains clarification on several issues.

First of all, the mystery about what separates the premium from the non-premium cars is finally here. Over 800 cars in GT5 will be non-premium cars that have been brought over from GT4, these cars will not have interior! It’s not all bad though as the non-premium cars apparently look splendid too, the muscle cars in this preview batch are said to be non-premium models.

The remaining 200 cars are premium models made specifically for Gran Turismo 5, featuring detailed interior and modelled underbodies that will be visible thanks to cars being able to flip and roll.

As confirmed before, Gran Turismo 5 will feature several NASCAR cars and tracks, the title will also include the NASCAR-specific rules such as pace cars, restarts and such. The NASCAR cars will have the most extensive damage model as cars can be smashed into small pieces.

Polyphony Digital has also revealed a feature-rich online mode that will include personal blogs, messaging and more. For more info, check out Eurogamers’ excellent article. To round things out, you can find two new HD videos of the E3 demo below, showing the Rome street circuit and the Circuit de la Sarthe in action.

Gran Turismo 5 will be bringing 1000 cars and over 60 tracks to the Playstation 3, including new features such as damage, weather and day/night effects. GT5 will be one of the first six Playstation 3 games to be available in 3D. The title will be out on November 2nd in the North & Latin America, release dates for Europe and Japan have not been confirmed yet.

* Polyphony Digital is working on reducing load times and is still tweaking graphics ahead of the November release date.

* The game has nearly filled all of the space available on Blu-Ray disc.

* You’ll have the option to synchronize the game’s time of day with the track’s current local time.

* The crowds will be dynamic, so there will be more tents, cars, and motorhomes at longer races.

* Yamauchi admits his team may have “actually gone too far in modeling some of this detail” and suggested it might be “more suited to the next generation of PlayStation.”

* Both high and low-beam headlights will be included, so you can flash slower cars as you’re about to pass them. All lights will illuminate dirt, smoke, or other debris in the air.

* NASCAR insisted that all of their series’ cars be playable on all circuits in the game.

* It was previously mentioned that only 9 NASCAR cars will be included, but this was incorrect. There are simply 9 cars in the E3 2010 demo, but “many more” are coming.

* With the exception of profanity, all of the Nurburgring’s graffiti has been re-created, just as it is in real life. According to Kotaku, they will attempt to keep the graffiti up-to-date before the game is shipped.

* Players will be able to maintain an online profile to share and watch friend’s progress and statistics.

* All cars (including standard models) will accumulate dirt and will have functional horns.

* All cars will have functioning reverse lights.

* More information will be revealed at Gamescom in Germany on August 18-22.

* More Formula 1 teams will bring their cars to the game, in addition to Ferrari.

The mystery regarding the question whether or not the 800 standard cars will have a cockpit view or not is still not solved, all media outlets stick by the wording that only the premium cars will have fully-modelled interior.

The history of TimeRacingClub
Written by TRC factory

Hello everyone, and welcome to TimeRacingClub.com!  We thought that we would take a few minutes and give you all a brief history of who we are.

TRC Scirocco

TimeRacingClub was founded on September 19th, 2005.  The original name that we gave the team was 'Time Chasers', due to our obsession with hotlapping.  Eventually, once our team started to grow, the name was shortened to 'Time'.  With the release of the xbox 360 and the ability to modify gamertags the name was changed one final time to TimeRacingClub.  This also reflected  the enthusiam some members had developed for racing in leagues.  Our club is based on the idea that each member has equal standing, and gaming integrity and respect for each other is required of its members.  We feel that this is the reason that we have survived the ever changing landscape of online clubs.  Many of our members have been a part of TRC for years, and newer members can find for themselves a home that offers them a friendly and safe environement to enjoy their passion for videogames.

TRC has enjoyed many successes in the Forza franchise.  We have had members win trips to LA for the Nisssan tournament, Texas for the CGS combine, and NY for the Audi sponsored AXF competition, where the winning team had two TRC members.  We have also enjoyed tremendous success in the IFCA leagues, bringing home the individual and team titles on numerous occasions against some of the best competition that Forza has to offer.  We have had the privilege of getting to know some of the Forza community legends, as well as racing with many other great people who share the same passion as we do for racing.

We are grateful to the Forza community for providing the atmosphere where clubs like ours can not only survive, but flourish.  We know that without the community that Turn 10 has built, many of our members would never have found us, and we would not be the club that we are today.  Thanks to all of you, we have been together for over fours now, and will continue to be around for years to come.  Please, enjoy your visit to our home, and come back as often as you like.

Microsoft Packing in Free Car Pack with New Copies of Forza 3

Microsoft wants to make sure you don't pick up a used copy of Forza 3 when you buy it.

By Chris Pereira, 10/07/2009

Forza 3

It's a trend we're seeing more and more from publishers trying to thwart the sale of used games by incentivizing the purchase of new ones: Packing in bonuses with new copies of games that are either otherwise unattainable, or only gettable by paying a fee on the Xbox Live Marketplace or PlayStation Store. The latest publisher to employ this technique is Microsoft with the upcoming Forza Motorsport 3, set to hit store shelves on October 27.

Included with each new copy of Forza 3 is a voucher to redeem for a free download of the "Motorsports Legends Car Pack," a download including two bonus tracks and 10 cars that have been "hand picked" by Forza developer Turn 10. The included cars are as follows:

  • '65 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA
  • '64 Aston Martin DB5 Vantage
  • '81 BMW M1
  • '60 Chevrolet Corvette
  • '69 Dodge Charger
  • '57 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa
  • '80 Fiat 131 Abarth
  • '67 Lamborghini Miura P400
  • '71 Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-R
  • '65 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe

Two tracks and 10 cars is a pretty nice bonus for opting to pick up a new copy of the game. Is it enough to sway your decision if you were thinking of waiting for used copies to begin popping up?

Test Drive Unlimited 2 Hands-On

Luxurious cars, sprawling mansions, posh parties - Test Drive Unlimited 2 strives to not just be a racer, but simulate the fabulous life style of a millionaire seeking adventures driving fast cars. Developed by Eden Studios, which has made entries into the Alone in the Dark and Need for Speed franchises, Test Drive Unlimited 2 will be released by longtime publisher Atari.

Unlimited 2 strives for realistic driving and environments, separating it from other more arcade style racers. Our demonstration allowed us to explore an accurate replication of Ibiza, Spain. We started with a pre-made avatar and proceeded to buy an Aston Martin from a local car dealer. We had the freedom to explore the island’s paved roads and vast landscapes. However, Unlimited 2 isn’t meant for simply solo play and we were quickly joined by other players. We quickly added each other to our friend’s list and were able to instantly warp to a meeting point.

While we had the option of starting a traditional street race, we instead opted to try a cooperative follow the leader mode. Instead of all players being shown the route on our GPS HUD, only one of the racers was given the location of our next check point. After crossing each goal, the leader would switch off. Communication and team work was needed to make sure that everyone finished the course.

Strangely, while the driving mechanics seemed fluent, there was little regard for damage. Our car could spin-out, crash into walls, or drop off cliffs, yet could drive away with only scrapes and dents. Unlimited 2 isn’t interested in copying the spectacular wipe-outs found in the Burn Out or need For Speed Games. It was rather pleasing that our pristine, luxurious Aston Martin also doubled as an unstoppable tank. However, barreling through Ibiza isn’t your only option.

We were lead to our decadent estate, where we could spend money buying decorations, furniture, and admire our packed garage. We even invited the other players to our home, and used in-game emotes to socialize. We noticed that our characters’ each had different levels and statistics. Apparently we gained levels in various fields, including racing and socializing as we participated in more events and spent time with our friends.

Test Drive Unlimited 2 is an intriguing way to combine online social gaming with fast, racing action. We are looking forward to exploring a highly populated Ibiza when Test Drive Unlimited 2 releases on September 21st for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Personal Computer.
